In a city fueled by grit and boundless creativity, music producer Marquis Gasque, known as Mighty Mark, leads the charge to preserve and elevate Baltimore club music, a genre that echoes the heartbeat of its people. Through over a decade of archival footage capturing Mark and other artists rising in the scene, this documentary follows Mighty Mark as he balances his role as a family man, artist, and community leader. Alongside fellow Baltimore club figures, including producer TT the Artist, Dcember Moon, singer Rodney Hollywood, dancer TSU Terry, and filmmaker Larry Whaddup, Mark reveals how the genre has saved lives and united a city. Don't miss our Baltimore-centric opening night celebration with performances, two live film screenings and Q&As focusing on all new Baltimore-made short films and the locally produced club music feature “Dark City Beneath the Beat, ” directed by Baltimore musician TT THE ARTIST. This dynamic evening will end with Baltimore DJs spinning online for a unique and memorable afterparty featuring dance performances with TT the artist and special guests hosted virtually at the Crown.

Reese Waters, host of Get Up DC and a celebrated comedian, will serve as the host of the Opening Night live event.

Comprising of 6 incredible Baltimore-made films (4 documentaries and 2 narratives), our Balti-Shorts program sees these films in conversation with one another about our beloved city.

8:30pm DARK CITY BENEATH THE BEAT
Rhythmic and raw, Dark City defines the soundscape of Baltimore city highlighting local club artists, DJs, dancers and producers as they are realizing their dreams of globalizing this musical genre. Inspired by an original Baltimore club music soundtrack, Dark City Beneath The Beat showcases Baltimore club music as a positive subculture in a city overshadowed by trauma, drugs and violence.
